MIDNIGHT MADNESS - PORTSMOUTH
06/29/2008
Midnight Madness tipped-off their summer programme at The Mountbatten Leisure Centre in Portsmouth today.
First up was a two hour clinic for younger ballers - with kids getting some one-on-one coaching from the likes of Mike Martin, Perry Lawson and Pierre Henry-Fontaine.
After that, in a new development for MM, the ladies got a two hour run. They were playing for the first of three spots at the qualifying event in Nottingham on August 9th…where they'll then battle for a place in the grand final at Wembley.
Today's "golden ticket" winner were:
Kathrina Wohlberg......37pts Fiona Scarlett...........19pts Jade Harris...............13pts
From 2pm to 6pm the U21 men held court. The prize for the age group winner is personal mentoring from Luol Deng - so the competition was fierce.
As with the senior men, the U21s are split into position categories, with two point guards, two shooting guards, two small forwards, two power forwards and two centres qualifying from each road show.
Today's U21 winners were:
PG: Albert Margai...........46pts PG: Eddie Morrison.........43pts SG: Darrell Bethune........64pts SG: Daniel Makam..........17pts SF: David Ajumobi..........69pts SF: Will Neighbour..........6pts PF: Armand Anebo..........37pts PF: Tayo Ogebenbe........25pts C: Tega Orugun..............57pts C: Matt Bates.................1pt

The U21 Winners
Today's over 20s were:

Chc, dude, the reason a C got through with 1 point is cause you aint playing against everyone...you play against your position, PG againt PG etc. Not to meantion losing points for turnovers or missed shots, its entirly possible man. Show up, represent and they cant deny you if you play well. Screw showing up with a team man, this is what ballin's about, son.

yep... whats ur point? I thought the whole thing of MM was that every time ur team comes off ur name goes 2 bottom board and then next 5 on - well unless you have dead 30 - 35 - 40 then u wouldn't b in the same team!and that was what MM was about.... if it was about rollin wit a good team - then it should say on the website, on the posters bring a team of 5 to play wit...but I know every1 from the Pompey area thought it ended up being random teams so just turned up on own. oh how wrong - u need 2 bring a team wit u!!!! Lets face it 10 guys from Londo qualified; ur go up north and at least 5 guys from London will qualify, teh London one 10 london guys will qualify - and in the final 48 - 40 of them will b from London - guess they the best ballin city.... thats why they win everything at youth level and senior level? Not sure what... thats why most the GB and England team at U20 and over 20 are from London ........ or am i wrong

fair enough.... still look at the team... u tellin me say Ryan Williams did not play a lot better than at least 4 of these and that is only 1 player??? mmmm... near enough every1 in that pic and pic b4 are the London guys that roll wit the guys on the MM crew... some of them were awful on the day - not goin 2 mention names as do not want 2 slate - but am sure a lot of people who were there would agree... just pure and simple looks like a fix - i hope the other road shows are not the same.

Double H:
The two people on the table at the side of the elite court. They score on all the categories and at the end of the game give points to the team that won.

Double H:
I know the scores in the U21 were a big crazy as one team were on court for about an hour and a half, racking up the points…
The only thing I'd change is the team structure… I think the teams should be mixed up a bit, so you don't end up in a situation where you have all the best players on the same team, killing everyone else…

Greg Tanner:
I'm pretty sure you can put yourself down as two positions.
Gareth could be listed as both SG and SF.
Whichever position you do best at is the score they use.

Came down to this and music and atmosphere was good - but cant help but think after watchin both the U21 and O21 it is a fix... could not c any1 watchin the game n scorin each indiv player well n was there long time ... the selected 20 was "who knows who" as games werent watched that greatly... not biased as all peeps i knew got in2 top 20 - but was obvi a slight fix for a lot... interms of positions how can a C get through wit 1 pt????! Surely there were better players that may say they were PF n actually C's - system dont work 2 well.... In terms of the games - they did not represent basketball - if u can cheat, be physical, strong and are good at fouling n streetball - u will do well - wanna play a organised way - picks etc - forget it as most players wont pass the ball if ya free
Not puttin it all down as defo will b at final as the atmosphere was great - but I am sure at least 95% of people walked away thinking FIX.....
