EUROPE'S BEST (AND A-LEVELS) AWAIT GB STAR
08/03/2008

While her former classmates of Loreto Grammar School will have spent their summer so far anxiously waiting for their A-level results, Georgia Jones has been preparing with the rest of the Great Britain basketball squad to take on the best in Europe.

Jones, the youngest member of the Great Britain basketball squad, will discover how she faired in her business, English literature and psychology exams only a day after GB play their opening EuroBasket game against the Ukraine.

But it's a measure of the 18-year-old's maturity, both on and off the court that sees her take both prospects in her stride.

"It doesn't really feel like I'm the youngest member of the team because this is my third summer playing for GB," said the former Manchester Mystic.

"In that time there's been a number of new faces come into the squad so we all work really hard to be a family which means no-one gives me a hard time about my age!"

Since 2006 Jones has featured in all 10 of GB's EuroBasket games and despite her age is only one of four players to have spent more than 180 minutes on court. Last summer the team were undefeated which consequently saw them promoted into EuroBasket Division A, after two successful playoff games against the Netherlands.

"Scoring the game winning basket against Holland in the promotion games last year is my favourite moment in a GB jersey so far," continued Jones.

"This summer is going to be tough because we will be playing against top opposition, but we've worked really hard to get here and we've got a great group of girls who all believe they can do the business."

Like many of her teammates Jones will head to the States once the summer is over, to study and play for Oral Roberts University, but first she will play her part in GB's games. The Welsh Institute of Sport will host all four home games, starting with Lithuania on August 20.
