The Midnight Madness team got off to a good start on the first day of Europe's toughest streetball tournament, Le Quai 54.

They swept aside Team Jon Session, from Germany, with great defence and fast break dunks.

The team from Britain were strong right from the start, going into the half up 20 - 4 (games are 2 x 12 minute halves).

Stiffling D was the key - with guards Perry Lawson, Germayne Forbes and Marcus Knight pressuring the opposition's suspect point into turnovers.

In the second half, it was much of the same...with Newcastle Eagle Darius Defoe getting four or five dunks on the break to help his team to a 37 - 21 victory.

The guys face a tougher test first thing Sunday morning when they go up against "Gunz" - who boast a seven foot centre. Basketball 24/7 reckons Midnight Madness should win....and make the semis at least.

The MM team features: Perry Lawson, Germayne Forbes, Marcus Knight, Darius Defoe, Olu Babolola, Mike Martin, David Aliu, Tayo Ogedengbe and Daps Fagbenle.
