DREW IS BACK AS GB SKIPPER
08/12/2008 Chris Finch confirms Drew Sullivan as Team GB captain

CHRIS Finch has confirmed that Drew Sullivan will skipper GB for a third straight summer in 2008.

There was little doubt that the popular Londoner would be given the armband again after two successful campaigns.

But cases could have been made either for high-profile NBA-er Luol Deng or veteran centre Andy Betts to be in contention.

However, coach Finch has moved quickly on the eve of the warm-up tournament in Italy to put Sullivan back in command.

Finch said: "Drew is a deserving captain, it's as simple as that.

"He has been here with us since day one of the programme and never missed a day. He is totally committed.

"He is a good, natural leader who leads by example and is not afraid to say what needs to be said."

The selection of Sullivan as skipper demonstrates that the relationship between coach and player did not suffer despite their parting of the ways this summer following Sullivan's year in Belgium with Mons.

Check out Drew's interview with 247's Ian Whittell.
