GB OUT FOR REVENGE
09/12/2008
GB's surprise hero Flinder Boyd admits his team are out for revenge in the grudge re-match with Israel at Liverpool Arena on Saturday.
Chris Finch's team led by two points with 30 seconds to play in Tel Aviv ten days ago only to lose in over-time after some dodgy refereeing decisions. Since then, they have hammered the Czech Republic and Bosnia at home and a win for the Brits tonight will leave them with one foot in next summer's Euro Finals in Poland. And Boyd admitted: "We have a point to prove against Israel, we have some bad feelings left over from that first game. "It was a game we should have won and they kind of stole it from us. "We want to show them it was just a fluke so we don't only want to beat them, we want to beat them bad!" LA kid Boyd, 28, qualifies for a passport and the GB team because his father is from Finchley. But, despite not being born in Britain, Boyd has been the unsung star of the GB team so far. He added: "I'm loving it and it's a great honour playing with these players and representing my father's homeland. "We're very optimistic we can qualify for the Finals and confident, in the right way. But we need to beat Israel to put ourselves in the driving seat." GB centre Andy Betts is still listed as "day to day" with his back injury and looks unlikely to start, leaving coach Chris Finch to name an unchanged team.
