SEE FUTURE STARS IN LONDON
06/22/2009

The highest-calibre international junior tournament to hit the UK in years goes down in southwest London next month.

Future Stars will feature the Under-18 national teams from Spain, Italy, Israel, England and Poland - as well as a Richmond "Select" team.

The tournament takes place at Kingston College from 10th - 12th July - less than two weeks before the 2009 U18 European Championships, in which all the international teams will be competing.

At last year's Future Stars event, some of the best young talent in Europe was on display. The tournament MVP, Jan Vesely (below), went on to have an amazing season with basketball powerhouse Partizan Belgrade.

Two other players returned to London just a couple of months later to play for the Czech Republic's men's team against Great Britain at the O2 Arena.

In addition to the tournament, Future Stars will also be hosting a basketball coaching conference.

Amongst the speakers will be Pepu Hernandez - the highly acclaimed former head coach of the Spanish men's national team, with whom he won the gold medal at the World Championships in 2006 and the Silver Medal at the European Championships in 2007.

The other keynote speaker will be Neven Spahija, head coach of Pamesa Valencia and previously of Tau Ceramica with whom he won the ACB Spanish League title in 2008.
Spahija has coached high-profile teams all over Europe and has the honour of having won six National Championships in five different countries.

The international coaches will be joined by experienced university lecturer, Bryan Jones, who will spell out the importance of sport psychology in today's game of basketball.
